Abstract

In this article, we will discuss the power relations between the exam that determines Portuguese Language Proficiency for Foreigners (Celpe-Bras), which is the only proficiency exam recognized by the Brazilian government. This exam is structured in two parts: written and oral assessments, which indicate the performance of those being examined concerning the use of the language. Considering that these evaluations, regarding the aforementioned exam are instruments of power, our main aim is to analyze how situations of power are established during the exam between examiners and examinees.
