This paper attempts to present some reflections about student's performance in schools, stressing the discussion of some statements, often heard in the public school, concerning the sources of learning difficulties of children from popular classes. On one hand, it was noted that a poor academic performance cannot be, as rule, related to individual and/or familial characteristics. On the other hand, the study brought the need of a deeper knowledge on how the practices and processes of the several protagonists involved with the academic production (teachers, parents, students, administrator and other workers) have been developed.Downloads
